The Rugby Polo Shirt Makes a Comeback

NYFW is the place to find your style update!

My last day of New York Fashion Week was spent catching up on work, aggressively napping, and rubbing elbows with celebrities. When I got the news that I was invited to the exclusive launch of Kent & Curwen's Fall-Winter 2017 Collection, all I could think of was my photo-op with David Beckham. When I arrived to the Autumnal British Garden Party, I noticed the long table of rugby polo shirts and the wait staff was wearing the black edition of the rugby polo shirt. It's clear that the rugby polo shirt is an all time favorite for David Beckham and the collection features various colors of rugby polos, collar-less shirts, and embroidered jackets.

The rugby polo shirt traditionally is worn by rugby players and is popular during the fall when the long sleeve polo shirt can be worn with sweatpants or chinos. The perfect fall item that can go from the relaxed, unkempt chic to a casual evening outfit. The shirt buttons are rubber to prevent them from popping off during physical activity, and the durability of the fabric is attributed to the amount of cotton fibers to prevent the shirt from tearing.

The rugby polo shirt is this fall's bold style move because of one word, COMFORT. It's collar elevates the garment and how you style the rugby polo shirt gives the garment more personality. David Beckham says

"The rugby polo shirt is symbolic of menswear and athleticism. It's another polished garment to add to any menswear collection."
